The Onubenser es un proyecto colectivo de ilustración que homenajea a The New Yorker. Inspirándose en sus famosas portadas, Carolina Saiz y Chío Romero han puesto en marcha este proyecto para crear una comunidad de ilustradores y artistas en torno a una temática común: Huelva, en todos sus sentidos.

En esta ocasión, he elegido Río Tinto, una explotación minera a cielo abierto que lleva funcionando miles de años y que, gracias a sus características únicas, ha sido elegida por la NASA y otras agencias espaciales para llevar a cabo los experimentos que ayudarán a preparar la conquista del planeta rojo.

Los primeros habitantes de Marte se alimentarán a base de insectos, algas y, con suerte, verduras cultivadas en suelo marciano. Personalmente, prefiero Río Tinto; se come bastante mejor y para muchas personas es igual de desconocido que el planeta rojo… aunque si vas en tren, tardas casi lo mismo.

The Onubenser is a colective illustration project paying tribute to the legendary The New Yorker. Inspired by their famous covers, Carolina Saiz and Chío Romero decided to start this project to create a community of artists and illustrators from Huelva.

I chose Río Tinto, an open-pit mining that has been working for centuries, which was used by the NASA and other spacial agencies to carry out experiments that will help pave the way to conquer the Red Planet.

The first humans living in Mars will feed from insects, algae, and luckily enough, some vegetables grown on martian surface. I personally prefer staying in Río Tinto; the food is much bettter and, to many people, it is just as unknown as Mars. However, a train trip may take just the same time.
