Error 404: art not found
‘Error 404: art not found‘ (2023, medidas variables, animación proyectada sobre monitor) es una obra de arte que nunca llega a mostrarse al espectador, que vive sumida en un eterno proceso de actualización y jamás llegará a concretarse. Exactamente igual que nuestro cerebro cuando abusamos de las pantallas.
Inspirada en las extrañas contradicciones entre progreso y tecnología, esta pieza plantea una crítica en tono irónico hacia todos aquellos problemas derivados de la implantación ciega de nuevos modos de producir que en su origen, prometían mitigar las consecuencias negativas del capitalismo posindustrial… y han servido justo para lo contrario.
En lugar de liberarnos de tareas monótonas y poco satisfactorias, como la Declaración de la Renta o la limpieza doméstica, las Inteligencias Artificiales quieren escribir poesía. En lugar de comunicarnos mejor con el resto del mundo, los smartphones nos han aislado y polarizado más que nunca.
¿Cuál es el papel del arte en este contexto tan difícil? Aún no lo hemos encontrado. Ojalá estemos a tiempo de conseguirlo.
‘Error 404: art not found‘ (2023, variable size, animation on screen) is an artwork that spectators will never get to see, that lives in a constant updating process, and will always be expecting an ending that never comes. Just like our brains after too much screen time.
Inspired by the odd contradictions between progress and technological development, this piece introduces a critical, yet ironic reflection on all the current problems derived from blind faith in new production methods that promised to free us from all the negative consequences caused by post-industrial capitalism… and ended up doing just the opposite.
Instead of freeing us from monotonous, low satisfying tasks, such as income-tax filling or household cleaning, Artificial Inteligence wants to write poetry. Instead of keeping us connected to the rest of the world, smartphones made us feel more lonely and polarized than ever.
What is the role of art in this increasingly difficult context? We have not found it yet. I wish it is not too late.
